How One Lyft Driver is Fighting for Refugees

By donating 100% of tips to the International Rescue Committee.

The next time you get into your Lyft in Los Angeles you might be lucky enough to have Andreas Knab as your driver. Knab is the mastermind behind the brilliant movement, Lyft Every Voice. The University of Oxford graduate was born in Germany and considers himself extremely fortunate to have an American mother. He holds dual passports and recently came back to the USA after Trump was elected as President of the United States. At the beginning of the year, Knab made a resolution to donate 10% of his income to support refugees.

Knab found himself in sunny southern California and began to drive for Lyft. He adhered to his philanthropic commitment and created the Lyft Every Voice campaign which supports the International Rescue Committee. 100% of the tips he receives go directly to the fundraiser. The IRC is the only international relief agency working on all fronts of the Syrian crisis, including assisting those displaced in the U.S. Lyft stands firmly against the various travel bans put in motion by President Trump. The project name #LyftEveryVoice alludes to the poem ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ by the African-American poet James Weldon Johnson. Currently, he has raised over $1,000, with a goal of $5,000. When he tells his Lyft passengers about his campaign they are eager to contribute and participate in the resistance.
