Our first stop in Indonesia’s famed island of Bali was the tourist hub of Seminyak. We spent a few days in the hip area to be able to explore all that south Bali had to offer which we’ve detailed in our Kuta travel guide. There is no shortage of bohemian bungalows and such in Seminyak but if you’re looking for something quirky and vibrant that is an affordable luxury then you’ve got to stay at the hippest hotel in the area–Dash. It is an especially great place to stay for traveling couples as there is a serious dosage of passion in the air here. The beach is just a 10-minute walk away and some of my favorite smoothie bowls in Bali are down the street. You also get a 15-minute welcome massage from the on-site Rabbit Hole Spa to start your stay off right and live up to the Dash ethos of “press pause to play”. The avant-garde boutique hotel also won the World Luxury Hotel Award in 2016 and 2017 for Luxury Art Hotel. Here are 5 reasons why we fell in love with Dash Hotel, and think you will too!
CONTEMPORARY COLORFUL COMFY ROOMS
We were invited to stay in one of the Dash studio guestrooms. We loved the warehouse feel of the open floor plan with industrial furnishings and seemingly endless graffiti. I almost felt transported back to some of my favorite Lower East Side pe bars, except this was a zillion times cleaner. The real heartthrob of the room is the luxurious king size bed with 400 thread count cotton sheets. If you’ve ever wanted to try sleeping on a cloud, here is your chance! Our second favorite feature was the powerful rain shower, and the complimentary loofah (which we severely needed). Each room also has a balcony, either facing the pool or a field of palm trees as ours did. I live for hotel bathrobes at the Dash hotel kimono did not disappoint with its super soft material and matching slippers.
These eclectic rooms were built for lovers and aren’t for the faint of heart, or prude. We were surprised to see a lot of families staying here but I guess for a sweet naive child they’d see right through the innuendos to all the cute design elements. We may be loving, consensual, half-Latin lovers but even we have our limits and we promptly removed the super cute red rabbit stuffed animal from the bed. Afterall, with the invitation to play literally written in lights on the bed we didn’t want to think about what had gone down in the room before our arrival!
Dash Hotel Seminyak has whopping 9.1 guest review score on Booking.com! The Dash studio can be reserved on Booking.com for US$73 including breakfast which typically costs US$15 per person. It is the best hotel breakfast we’ve ever had, you can’t miss it! It is so good that we’ve dedicated the next section to our love for their morning spread of goodies.
THE MOST INCREDIBLE BREAKFAST
Breakfast is served each morning until 10:30 AM at the adjacent Mya Kitchen and is literally the bread and butter of Dash Hotel. If you opt to include breakfast in your reservation you’ll be presented with an a la carte menu, in the style of a newspaper. You will want to try at least 85% of the dishes, trust me. Not to stress, you actually can! Breakfast at Dash Hotel is all you can eat, baby! Yup, even endless french pressed coffee and fresh juices. It’s is seriously so good you can even check out the menu and start planning out your brunch feast. Luckily we had three mornings to feast at Mya Kitchen.
Mya Kitchen creates made-to-order dishes that are influenced by an array of international cuisines. The breakfast portions aren’t massive so it’s easy to order a dish or two, or a bunch like we did, and share with your travel buddy. Definitely try the coconut super seed bowl, avocado toast, mixed berry quinoa porridge, huevos rancheros, and shakshuka. And don’t forget to splurge on your calorie allowance by indulging in a beignet worthy of New Orleans!
TAKE A DIP IN THE UNIQUE RED SWIMMING POOL
Have you ever swam in a red body of water? If yes, have you ever swam in a red body of water while a larger-than-life upside down red bunny rabbit watches over you? It may not be quite as cool as the Red Sea (no, it is not actually red) but the Dash swimming pool is pretty awesome too. The pool is just as over-the-top as the rest of the hotel but most guests were likely out at the beach so we had it to ourselves most mornings while the sun shined directly down on the retro piscine. It is mostly shady in the afternoon due it’s placement in the hotel’s central courtyard. If you’re in the need of more fun in the sun head up to the smaller sitting pool on the roof!
HANGOUT AT THE LAID BACK ROOFTOP TERRACE
The Shack is is a little old place where we can get together. It was our favorite place to hang at Dash. With sweeping views of Seminyak and the sea, bold and comfy patio furniture, and great cocktails from the bar. The daybeds at the sundeck are super cozy and an idyllic place to spend a lazy afternoon. Dash provides towels, SPF, and beautiful fans made of traditional Balinese fabrics in ikat prints to help keep you cool.
There is also a small dipping pool on the roof complete with jacuzzi jets. From the pool, you can enjoy views of the sea and float aimlessly for hours like I did.
BE INSPIRED BY QUIRKY PLAYFUL DESIGN ELEMENTS
At Dash Hotel there are graphic art murals absolutely everywhere, from the guest rooms, on floors, ceilings, and bathrooms. Each elevator is equipped with a different adorable saying, such as love and passion. The floor where the Flex gym is located has super cute robots painted on the walls. The facade is laden with bright tubes in that resemble slides and matching mannequins posed on balconies, nude of course. Dash hotel is certainly artsy but I can’t quite put my finger on the exact décor theory. It’s one part factory, another part fantasy. It’s color-blocked in vibrant primary shades. Somehow it is modern, retro, and futuristic. There is always something else to discover at Dash Hotel Seminyak.
We loved our first time embracing the Dash experience! The bunny is the Dash icon and each hotel has a different colored rabbit but the red Bali bunny will always have a special place in our hearts. Dash Hotels also have a property in Cyberjaya, Malaysia all which can be reserved on Booking.com! I wonder what color their bunny is?
